Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Sunday the setting up of a high powered task force in the education sector to ensure a foolproof examination system. The announcement was made through a video message for students via the prime minister's official Instagram account.
Modi informed that the task force will be headed by Nandan Nilekani, co-founder of Infosys and Padma Bhushan awardee. Nilekani was the architect of Aadhaar, and the key person behind India's digital public infrastructure ecosystem.
The government will work on the measures for leak-proof and tech-sound exams put forward by the task force, Modi said.
Other members of the task force on exam reforms are S Somanath, ex-director of ISRO; Tapan Deka, ex-director of Intelligence Bureau (IB)' IIT Chennai Director V Kamakoti' former education secretary Anita Karwal and logistics expert Amrit Lal Meena.
The prime minister, in the message, also mentioned the bill to amend the anti-malpractice law that is slated to be introduced in the Parliament tomorrow as well as the constitution of fast-track courts to deal with exam irregularities as measures adopted by the union government to protect the future of Indian students.
The reform measure comes against the backdrop of the recently concluded student protests led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) against irregularities in the conduct of examinations such as NEET-UG 2026.
The protests led to the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan from the post of union education minister.
